Question 1 of 1
1. Question
Copywriters are creative professionals who are savvy and creative writers. They have the skills to be precise in just a few words. Here is a good example from year 2016 from Slush, a yearly international startup event in Helsinki.
‘Nobody in their right mind would come to Helsinki in November. Except you, you badass. Welcome.’
Context: November is the darkest month of the year in Helsinki. Definitely not the place where people would go for tourism. But the copywriter behind this banner managed to transform the negative into a positive in a smart way.
In this sub-chapter, we talked about experimentation and piloting. We are assuming here that copywriting is not your day job, so how about getting out of your comfort zone and becoming a copywriter for a day? We want you to experiment with a new practice.
Inspired by the Helsinki banner, write one sentence (max 20 words), and make it into a banner for your hometown.
Imagine that this banner will be hung at your hometown airport or bus station, somewhere where visitors will see it as soon as they arrive.
But to play with serendipity, you must insert one word to the sentence from your immediate environment: like window, pet, bookshelf, coffee machine.
After you go through some rounds of iteration and have your final sentence, write it in the text box below. Write also some of your early ideas and explain how you developed them into the final sentence.
Write a max. 200 word description of your experience with the real-life activity.
