Question 1 of 1
1. Question
In 2024, researchers at Aalto developed shimmering wood. Instead of shimmering colours coming from plastics, as in the current design industry, these colours are based on the nano-scale structure of the wood. This work comes from a lab that brings together design and materials science, using nature to inspire new sustainable materials like these wood-based structural colours. This project began in 2016. The final outcome, a better way to make things beautiful, is the product of a long path of experimentation and exploration.
