In 2020, the City of Amsterdam announced its strategy for basing its policy on the ‘Doughnut Economy’. The Doughnut Economy is a model by economist Kate Raworth. She argues that the purpose of economics should not be to promote growth but to provide the necessities for a comfortable life while remaining within the planetary boundaries for stable climate and healthy environment.
